Caring for your Upholstery

Just by regularly vacuuming your upholstery you're prolonging its life! This simple step removes the tiny bits of dust, food and dirt that can cause wear. If the debris remains on the upholstery, the fabric looks dingy and it can cause premature wear.

If you just purchased your new upholstered piece, it's probably been treated with stain protectors. If the fabric was not treated, consider a professional application. These protectors will eventually wear off, so a protector should be reapplied every few years.

Do-It-Yourself Carpet-Cleaning 

Ideally, your carpet should be professionally cleaned. We at ACE recognize that many people alternate between cleaning the carpet themselves and hiring a professional. 

There are three common ways do-it-yourselfers (and inexperienced "pros") damage carpets:

Over-wetting occurs when too much water soaks into the bottom of the carpet. When this happens, some carpets will shrink and tear themselves up from the floor. If the backing and pad gets really soaked, it is very difficult to dry them and you risk mold and mildew hazards.

Stains caused by furniture coming into contact with wet carpeting is another common problem. Many kinds of wood furniture will release some of the dyes in their stain if left in contact with a wet surface. Also metal can rust, leaving a rust stain in the carpet.
